I am intimately invested in how artists and bands market themselves and grow their careers. And it’s no surprise; since my first job as a clerk in a mall music store I’ve managed record labels, worked in music publicity, launched a song licensing and publishing company, and spent over a decade touring the world as a major label recording artist.
I’m probably best known in the music industry as Astralwerks/Virgin Records recording artist Q-Burns Abstract Message. Under this name, in the late ‘90s, and throughout the ‘00s, I wrote and produced four acclaimed albums and self-managed my artist career through my long-running Eighth Dimension imprint.
Eighth Dimension was founded in 1994 and quickly became one of the leading independent labels in the underground electronic music scene. The label released an eclectic and successful discography before branching out into event promotion, artist management, and music licensing.
In the late 2000s, I split Eighth Dimension into two companies: 8DPromo, handling freelance release promotion and publicity for electronic dance labels; and 8DSync, representing songwriters and producers for publishing and media licensing.
With my latest venture, 8D Industries, I draw upon my wide-ranging experience to advise artists and labels on how to optimize for growth and awareness.
I’m also the first American touring artist to perform in Siberia. I’d be happy to tell you the story someday.
